BFR

Or, been flying, really!

No flying no posting, simple as that.

Well, not that simple. Did have a health scare. Ended up being nothing more that too much stress, not enough sleep or exercise. I've taken care of the exercise part, not so well on the sleep front. Overall, I've reduced my stress level everywhere that I can and I'm down about 10 pounds from the beginning of the year.

Flying wise, I did my BFR yesterday. In a nutshell, I can do all the basic stuff well enough.

The most interesting aspect to the flight was practicing sort field landings at LVK. The first two attempts resulted in my being high and floating, followed by a go around. I'd hadn't recalled a 172 SP floating that much on approach. The winds at the surface were about 7 knots down the runway. My instructor mentioned that maybe we had a tail wind in the pattern.

After some corrections and successful landings we noticed a small fire burning south of Livermore. As the smoke drifted up tto our altitude, it was in fact moving in the oposite direction of the surface wind.

I recall seeing a picture in one of the various PPL training books of a tower that had several smoke pots attached. Two pots had a smoke trail in one direction while the thirs was in the opposite direction. Guess I got to exeperience that for myself this time.
