Texas again

Must post sooner......

Anyway, another trip to Texas this time it was San Antonio. I had never been to San Antonio, and I found that except for the heat and humidity, I really enjoyed myself. I did a nightly stroll on the Riverwalk(I described it to my wife as being in the Pirates of the Caribbean, without the pirates) and was treated to a great dinner at a hole in the wall family style Japanese restaurant.

On the flying front there were two things I found noteworthy.

This was a direct flight from SFO to SAT, but when I got to the gate I saw that I would be flying in a CRJ700. This surprised me and judging from the comments of many entering the aircraft I wasn’t alone. I think everyone was expecting at least a 757.

The CRJ is a nice bird, but I wouldn’t want to have been the folks in the far rear seats. The curve of the fuselage cuts down severely on the headroom of the window seat, and it was very noisy. I cheated and upgraded to first class.

Talking with the FA before landing she said that she hated how the CRJ landed when full. We did thunk down in pretty solid manner. I have no idea if that is the result of the aircraft of the pilot.

The other noteworthy item, at least to me, is that it doesn’t really matter how it’s happening. I just love to fly. On both the flight down and back the sky was clear over the Sierra’s and the Desert Southwest. Two highlights were Yosemite Valley on the way out, and Sedona early morning on the flight back.

The only real downer is not being able to swing around and check things out in leisure.

As someone in another blog noted about their writing, I'm also having a tough time with keeping on the intended topic. I want to keep writing on some aviation related level, but with so little of it occurring as myself in PIC I'm wandering a bit here. Hopefully some opportunities to do my own piloting will be happening here in the next couple of weeks.
